Severe environmental disruptions of the past contributed substantially or even caused collapses of some past societies. Contemporary world characterized by an “Anthropocene” situation should learn how to operate safely within certain planetary environmental boundaries. Global climate change represents such a boundary. Changing climate may directly – and mostly negatively – influence human well-being. In this respect, critical are ecosystem services that may be disrupted. There are several ways how to tackle climate change: adaptation, mitigation, and geo-engineering schemes. In any case, mankind should operate in an environmentally safe space.
