Election District







My Election district (Kutná Hora) is divided into two Regions, the Středočeský Region and the Vysočina Region and into two Districts, the Kutná Hora District and the west part of the Havlíčkův Brod District. The most famous places in the Středočeský region are historical towns Kutná Hora, Čáslav and Zruč nad Sázavou. There are two beautiful chateaus Žleby and Kačina in the Kutná Hora District too. Other interesting places are two recreational towns with pleasent atmosphere: Kácov and Rataje nad Sázavou or vibrant city Uhlířské Janovice.

Kutná Hora developed as a result of the exploitation of the silver mines. In the 14th century it became a royal city endowed with monuments that symbolized its prosperity. The Church of St Barbara, a jewel of the late gothic period and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec, which was restored in line with Baroque taste of the early 18th century, were to influence the architecture of the central Europe. Kutná Hora (Historical town centre with the Church of St Barbara and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec) was inscribed on UNESCO´s World Heritage List in 1995.

History of Čáslav begins after year 800 with founding of citadel and settlement called Hrádek. Near Hrádek, new town with huge square was founded by king Přemysl Otakar II. in 1250. In 1421, Bohemian parliament debated in Čáslav and voted new Hussite government. During Thirty Years War, in 1639 and 1642, Čáslav was devastated and burnt down by Swedish troops. In 1751 Čáslav became centre of region (county). Čáslav museum, one of the oldest regional museums in Bohemia was founded in 1864. In 1910, part of cranium of famous Hussite general Jan Žižka z Trocnova was discovered in Čáslav parish church. All Saint´s church and ossuary ČÁSLAV - city walls - Gothic French-style fortifications, cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, Baroque town hall - Žižkov hall - internment of the remains of J. Žižka of Trocnova are other interesting places in Čáslav.

Zruč nad Sázavou is a town with a medieval castle reconstructed as a Neo-Gothic situated on the hill above the city. This nice castle, Gothic stronghold and Gothic Holy Cross church belong to the most famous tourist sites in Zruč nad Sázavou.

The romantic castle of Žleby followed the design of English Gothic architecture. The former Gothic castle was established by the Men from Lichtemburg in the second half of the 13th century. Empire style Kačina chateau (originated in the 19th century) with beautiful park was used like filming location many times.

The highlights in the Vysočina region are Lipnice nad Sázavou town with famous Lipnice nad Sázavou castle, Světlá nad Sázavou town and Ledeč nad Sázavou town with beautiful castle as well. In the north of this Region can be visit two small but nice towns Golčův Jeníkov and Vilémov.

Lipnice nad Sázavou is situated below a Gothic castle and associated predominantly with the famous czech prose writer, columnist a journalist Jaroslav Hašek. His most famous work is The Good Soldier Schweik is associated with town of Lipnice nad Sázavou, where Hašek was laid to his rest. The Lipnice is vibrant place during summer months when it becomes the venue of several festivals, including Hašek´s Lipnice, Rock Lipnice and Folk Lipnice.

Světlá nad Sázavou is located amidst wooded hills on the upper course of the River Sázava. The Town hall on the square, the decanal Church of St Wenceslas and a chateau with english park on the left bank of the river are the most beautiful buildings in Světlá. Světlá nad Sázavou is famous for Czech crystal glass too and many people from Světlá work in this type of industry.

Ledeč nad Sázavou boasts several interesting historical monuments, including St Peter´s and St Paul´s Church, a jewish cemetery, the church of the Holy Trinity and a Marian sculptural group. The town is dominated by a castle with a history going back to the 1200s.

Golčův Jeníkov took a first part of its name from Martin Maxmilián, free lord of Goltz. Later, the Kolowrats family helped the town to acquire the right to run a state-owned tobacco factory and a needle factory, the first to be found in Central Europe. The most famous native daughter of Golčův Jeníkov is Jarmila Kratochvílová (Athlete of the world in 1983).

The foundation of Vilémov was in the 12 century. The centre of Vilémov consists of a square with a historical town hall and a modern-day fountain. Other important places include St Wenceslas´s Church, an Evangelical Church and a private Baroque chateau is used as a venue for concerts, training sessions a seminars. In 2003 Wilémov won a competition "The village of the year in the Czech republic"
